Noosa Council issue dossiers
Council debates things in instalments, sometimes years apart, and each report reads as though it were the first. These are the running histories.
-
The Lanyana Way land exchange
Council voted 6–0 to pursue a swap of public car-park land with the owner of the former Noosa Heads Bowls Club site, thirteen days before a 208-apartment plan for that site was unveiled. What the public would receive in return has not been published. When a smaller housing project was proposed next door in 2024, the mayor fought it and it became an election issue. This one has barely been reported.
-
The disclosure log Queensland stopped requiring
Until 1 July 2025 a Queensland department had to publish the documents it released under Right to Information, and had to keep a public list of every application it received. Both duties were repealed. Councils were never covered by either — and across the five financial years in which Noosa received sixty-eight RTI applications, thirteen entries were added to its disclosure log.
-
The Doonan compost facility
Council approved up to $9 million towards a composting facility, conditional on a grant it has since applied for. It then announced the project in a media release carrying no dollar figure — and neither did any of the coverage that followed.
-
Lions Park overflow parking
Council has run seasonal overflow parking on a Noosa Heads reserve for more than twenty years. On 11 August councillors were told to proceed on the basis that a land management plan was required, and voted down five attempts to test that. Nine days later they were told it was not required.
-
The Wildfire waste agreement
Council has approved entering into a trial waste-supply agreement with Wildfire Energy without seeking tenders. The value, term, tonnage and start date are withheld, and the public record does not say whether the waste goes to Wildfire's existing Bulwer Island pilot plant or the commercial one scheduled for 2028.
